Saigon - basically my favorite city in the world - is a changing place. The difference here now between when I first came here almost 2 years ago are undeniable. Prices are up, the locals don’t gawk at you with as much curiosity as before, and there are skyscrapers heading towards the heavens almost everywhere you look. Although still a ridiculously inexpensive place to visit, the pressure is on here and a bus fare increase of just 1000 VND (appx .20 cents) stings the folks who live here and scramble / hustle their way through daily life. It’s great for the country to see HCMC heading towards a Bangkok model, but sad to see folks falling through the cracks because of it….
